It has been quite sometime since I posted anything…

My days have been filled with the usualy fast pace of life and reading.

The three books I have been reading are: Juice Fasting and Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz, The Sprouting Book by Ann Wigmore, The Hippocrates Diet by Ann Wigmore

This is the first book I read.  It is an easy read with lots of information regarding the why? what? when? how? questions about Detoxing your body.

The book is informative and offers guidelines for those who ordinarily wouln’t know what to do.  A Great Book for First timers.

I appreciated that the book went into Water Fasting, Juice Fasting, Detoxification, Weight Loss, Drink Recipes, Healing Crisis, Organs of Elimination, Excercises, and Coming off the Fast. These are usually areas that are unknown unless you read this book or one similar that would really go into what is happening before, during and after.

If you have about a day or two free then I would suggest this book.  I was able to ger through most of it in one sitting, but since life has so many responsibilities I had to finish it the next day. :)

I figured this was the best one to start with since I am planning, and have been planning another cleanse.  It is almost time for another parasite clease as well.  Usually every 6 months they should be done -or- if there was significant travel then you should do one every three months.

BOOK #2

This book was written by the late Ann Wigmore.  There was a plethora of information regarding the effects of Live Sprouts on the body.

For instance, Did you know Potassium is noted as the “Youth Mineral”?  Potassium helps the body maintain smooth tight skin.  It also helps maintain the proper alkalinity of the blood. Almond, Sesame, sunflower, mung, and cow pea sprouts supply more potassium than many other fruits and vegetables.

Alfalfa, fenugreek, lentil, adzuki, and mung sprouts are good sources of iron needed for red blood cell formation and the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the cells.

Alfalfa sprouts and sprouted pumkin seeds are high in zinc.  Zinc is essential for the synthesis of protein, liver function and in the healing of cuts and wounds.

When hemoglobin molecules circulate in the bloodstream, they carry oxygen to the cells throughout the body.  What is most like hemoglobin?  Chlorophyll!  That’s right.  A combo of Celery, Spinach and Parsley is great for our bodies.  (P.S. Just like Coconut Water is like our blood Plasma!;) Isn’t nature beautiful!) :)

Toxicity of blood, which is the cause of most illnesses like cancer is reduced in every case.

Antioxidants such as vitamins A,C, and E prevent the oxidation of fats in the blood, threby inhibiting the formation of free radicals in the body.  Vitamin C prevents free radicals from being formed and keeps Vitamin A and E from being destoyed.

Since food enzymes abound in sprouts, they are our best bet against againg!  The more cooked food we consume-the less enzymes we intake-therefore the quicker we age! :( (NO THANK YOU!!!)

Lastly, Enyme rich foods like sprouts, fresh fruits, veggies and their juices are the most important factors in slowing the aging clock!!!

Although an extremly interesting book with tons of knowledge, I could have done without the animal testing citations!!  It seemed sad to think about the monkeys that were given certain foods to attain clogged arteries, only to be given sprouts to help their predicament.  Of course I don’t think Ann Wigmore conducted the study, I still felt sad for the animals…

This book was a great read and perfect for those interested in beginning to SPROUT!!!

This was quite a book.  It explains all of the necessary food for optimum health.  It also goes into the complete system used at the Hippocrates Optimal Health institute as well as break down each food and why it is good for you and your body.

I think if you read this book, you may not need to read “The Sprouting Book”. Just my opinion!

Again there were citations of studies done on animals.  Not my fave as far as reasons to believe the facts, but still helpful and informative!!  I noted this above as well.

There are only a few days left for the GIVEAWAY!!! You can see that information here.

Namaste!

The Emperor Augustus coined the phrase ‘velocius quam asparagi conquantur’, meaning to do something faster than you can cook asparagus.

Asparagus has been used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, owing to its delicate flavour and diruretic properties. There is a recipe for cooking asparagus in the oldest surviving book of recipes, Apicius’ third century AD De re coquinaria, Book III. It was cultivated by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, who ate it fresh when in season and dried the vegetable for use in winter.

As I was walking around the dried chili section of the store I happened to look up and see a wall full of Asparagus.  I had remembered I had jotted a recipe down a few weeks back I had wanted to try.  I figured, why not?  I had no idea about dinner so it seemed like the universe was helping out. :)

I decided the menu would be: Basil Pest Marinated Asparagus with Nut patties and avocado.

First I made a Spinach~Pesto with Basil, Pine Nuts and Spinach.

Spinach~Basil Pesto

1/2 Bunch Spinach

2 Large Handfuls Basil

2 Garlic Cloves

1 cup Pine Nuts

1/3 cup olive oil

Preparation: Place everything in the Food Processor with the “S” blade and blend to desired consistency.  (I added a little water to the mix when I saw that it was having a little trouble moving around.)  I purposely made this amount to stuff some mushrooms or mix with something else this weekend.  Please note this recipe makes almost 2 cups.

Next I made the marinade for the Asaparagus.

Pesto Marinade

Juice of 1/2 a Lemon

2 tbs. Spinach Pesto

2 drops Sweet Basil Essential Oil

1 capful Apple Cider Vinegar

Preparation:  In a small bowl – Mix Lemon Juice, Sweet Basil Essential Oil and Apple cider vinegar together.  Add the Pesto according to taste.  (You can add salt if you wish).

I then used a vegetable peeler to take off the exterior skin of the White & Green Asparagus I purchased.

Green Asparagus sliced and peeled.

The white Asparagus was much thicker.  I was able to cut it into thinner strips.  It was also much more tender than the green Asparagus.  It marinated very well!!!

I made sure to marinate these in (2) different bowls since I didn’t want them to change each others flavors.

Gree Asparagus in marinade.

White Asparagus in Marinade.

The Asparagus marinated for about 30-40 minutes.  I served the meal with the Dehydrated Falaffel and my Daily Avocado.:)

I topped the Asparagus with some chopped olives.  Kalmata Olive on the Green Asparagus and Green Olives on the White Asparagus.

Plate #2

I think I will be making more again soon! YUM!!! :P

Thanks for visiting!!!

I thought I would leave you with a picture of THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!

Fantastic FATS!!!

We have all heard how great all of the Omegas are but the biggest star of the trio is OMEGA-3!!!!

Why?

The benefits of Omega-3′s are as follows: reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke while helping to reduce symptoms of hypertension, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), joint pain and other rheumatoid problems, as well as certain skin ailments. Some research has even shown that omega-3s can boost the immune system and help protect us from an array of illnesses including Alzheimer’s disease.  However, the latest research shows that the most promising health effects of essential fatty acids are achieved through a proper balance between omega-3s and omega-6s. The ratio to shoot for, experts say, is roughly 4 parts omega-3s to 1 part omega-6s.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are important in the normal functioning of all tissues of the body. Deficiencies are responsible for a host of symptoms and disorders including abnormalities in the liver and kidney, changes in the blood, reduced growth rates, decreased immune function, depression, and skin changes, including dryness and scaliness.

Where do I find Omega-3?  Where do I find Omega-6?

Omega 3 can be found in walnuts, hemp seeds & hemp oil, algae, flax seeds and flax oil, Pumpkin Seeds & Pumpkin oil.

Omega 6 can be found in flax seeds, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds and grape seeds. Food sources of Omega 6 fatty acids include pistachios, olive oil, chestnut oil and olives.

Where do I start?

I asked myself the same question.  The best answer I could come up with was make RAW GRANOLA!!!

Here is my favorite recipe, (RAW of course) and I will update with pictures a bit later this week! :)   I am always finding options that are better and better!!  This is my fave at the moment!!! :)

RAW GRANOLA

*KathyKath Recipe on Gone Raw

¼ cup Walnuts
2 tablespoon Almonds
1 tablespoon Cashews
2 tablespoon Sunflower seeds
1 tablespoon Pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon Ground flaxseed
3 tablespoon Raisins
1 tablespoon Golden raisins
Cinnamon to taste
Agave nectar or raw honey to taste/desired consistency

Preparation: Throw it all in a blender/food processor and pulse/blend until it’s crumbly enough for you! (Serving Size 1)  I use a combo of almond milk with a banana in the blender as my nut milk for this granola!!! and it usually makes enough for two portions for the day.  Although serving size states one on Gone Raw.
