Each week I make 1 simple goal to meet.

I figure the more goals I meet, the more successful I will be in the long run.

There are factors in my life I want to change and factors in my life I would like to encourage.

Of course there are LONG TERM goals for the year and then there are the simple ones for the day.

Today’s goal…The PEPPERDINE COASTAL 5k

It was a beautiful day in Playa Del Rey today.  The ocean was a breathtaking sight as we drove into the parking lot.

We were a bit fuzzy about the directions when we initially began driving toward the race, but thankfully I had written down the directions and we were soon on our way!  We got lost for about 5 minutes it ended well with us at the beach by 7:30.

I started the 5k a bit late since I had to use the bathroom and drop off my race t-shirt at the car.  But all was well.  Since I have my Garmin I am able to keep better track than the race is.  This race is a BIB ONLY - NO CHIP race.  The course is a flat fast course for both the 5k and the 10k.  Enjoyable and since I did not do the 10k I didn’t have to worry about the smelly waste station!

I opted for the 5k since my taste tester’s children are here visiting and we didn’t want to get back too late.  We figured a 1/2 hour 5k run was better than an hour 10k for our schedule today.

I will do this race next year as well.  Throughout 2011 I found it much easier to support a race when I was behind the cause the race is raising money for! :)

And for my other Goals?

Well, simply put I would also like to work on my patience level…

There are 2 quotes I have on my board where I list my goals.

1) Practice grace under fire

2)Be about it…Don’t just talk about it!

Part of life is recognizing bad behaviors, habits, attitudes, etc.

Once we recognize them we can conquer them and move on.  However, I do believe if you are not on guard ALL of the time, these bad behaviors can slip back into your life but for now let us continue…

This blog spends much of the time writing about yoga, running, vegan/vegetarian food, and overall health issues.  Today I would like to talk about hitting the RESET button to take control and begin again.

Sometimes life catches up with us on the track of life!  There are times when we think we are on track and we realize that life has looped around us!  We may be thinking that we are running together, when in fact we are ONE LAP BEHIND! Not a good scene!

When this happens, it usually means you haven’t taken a moment to just BREATHE & remember your inner self.  This is dangerous!  For you and those around you…as any new mommy will know, a sole proprietor, a secretary, an officer of the court, whomever is out there!

I recently found myself there and was really happy to find a Mantra to overcome this obstacle in life.

I also have been burning special incense and taking in certain foods to adjust my calibration.  Sound stupid?  I don’t think so.

When we eat LIVE RAW food we are accepting the earth and all its bounty of vitamins and minerals into our bodies.

When we stretch and practice yoga we are moving energy around that may be stuck.

Various breathing techniques help us liven the fire within.

When we run we are able to feel sensations of happiness, or pain.  We are able to release stress and possibly come to a decision that has been bothering us.  But more than anything we are able to take some moments to ourself and breathe!

Take at least 10 minutes a day to yourself!  If you don’t you will surely suffer from stress, high cholesterol, stomach issues, and other health problems.

Remember what makes you unique and truly a gift on this earth.  If you are having trouble knowing what those gifts are..then take the time to discover yourself and all of the miraculous things you are capable of!

Chapter 1 - Tuesday – July 26,2011

It was 78 degrees last night during my run.  It did however seem more tolerable since the sun had long been gone and the beauty of night was glimmering!

Unfortunately, my taste tester is still dealing with an a slight injury and unable to run with me…or so I thought!

The run was a simple 4.5 mile run.

I recently have begun to really push myself the last mile or so of the run. I figure next month I will push at 1.5 miles prior to the end and continue until I am running at a faster pace each mile of the run!  This should help me on race day…

My mind was thinking about so many topics while I ran.

Things like: Fueling my body ALOT better.  - Making the “FUEL” commitment to my running is really important.  The fact is I haven’t taken THIS particular commitment seriously. BOOO for the Veg888 Blogger! :(

That’s not to say I am eating sugar, candy, soda, sweets, etc.  It’s just that I know I need to take my consumption up about 5 notches!  But I am aware and I will do something about it!

As I approached the end of my run, I saw my taste test jogging toward me.  He finished the last mile of the run with me.  Unfortunately he was in pain and sniffling like he had a cold! Hmmm….

Once we were inside and I looked at him, I knew it!  A cold had found him and I wanted NO PART OF IT!

Despite my diligent effort not to catch my taste tester’s cold – I GOT SICK! >:(  Very upset to say the least!  I tried cleaning everything after he used it with thyme and tea tree essential oil.  I sprayed the rooms and the bed with this same concoction…

Stop the Cold Bug Disinfectant Spray

10 oz Distilled Water

6 Drops Organic Thyme Oil

6 Drops Organic Tea Tree Oil

Fill a clean spray bottle with the distilled water.  (I use distilled since it won’t mold or smell after a few weeks time.)  Add the essential oil to the water and cover with spray nozzle.  Shake before each use.

NOTE: My taste tester and I generally use this spray on our bed in the a.m. when we are fixing it and getting ready to go.  This spray is also really good in the kitchen, however I add lemon essential oil to that spray.

Unfortunately, I didn’t think to get the light switches or the steering wheel to the car! UGH!

On Thursday I woke up sneezing and felt the germ coming on!  I was determined to fight it!

Chapter 2 – Sunday – July 31, 2011

By Sunday the cold had vanished and I was healthy again!  Luckily!

We had purchased tickets to see Ziggy Marley at the Hollywood Bowl that night and I was truly excited!

I made Jerk Tofu with Red Beans and Rice in honor of Jamaica!

We sat and enjoyed a truly moving, captivating and dynamic show by Ziggy!  A true professional and a true musician.

More often than not, I am ALWAYS disappointed when Bob Marley’s kids start singing their father’s songs! How many times is Damian, Stephen or even Ky-Mani for that matter going to sing “We’re Jammin”! Ugh! Bob did it – it was part of his repetoire! However, that was then – this is now!

Both Ziggy and Ky-mani have great works independently and DO NOT NEED TO SING BOB’S songs.  Anyone feel me on this one??? :)

As the evening ended I was truly calm and serene.

I really enjoy having a meal and watching live music.  Note to self: I think I will host a function at the store as such.  It is REALLY calming and healing! I have the back yard area…why not?

Chapter 3 – Tuesday – August 9, 2011

Today marks a few symbolic goals I have decided to fulfill!  Things have been changing around here at the Veg888 Blog…Within, Without, Interior, Exterior…

First – Today is the 8th – ( that’s right 8 – Don’t I love 8′s!) day of a 14-day Organic Detox!  I am embarking on a DETOX FEST for the next 6 months! I will take you on my journey of these Detoxes and discuss what is happening as a cause of this cleansing fest. :)

Second – Today was the third – ahem – Colonic appointment I had.  Yes Readers you read that correctly.  Don’t worry, I won’t give you much more information than that.  I will however discuss why I am opting to have a colonic each week for the next few weeks.

Third – The realization of age and keeping your body in working order!  I noticed there were a few uncomfortable poses while practicing yoga.  Not uncomfortable because I couldn’t do them, but much more of an organ pain…if that makes sense???  I decided to listen to what my body was telling me and make some poignant changes to my life.  Yes it will be hard work and I will need dedication, but I have to do it.  I got one body at birth!  I need to take care of it from head to toe!

Chapter 3 – Tuesday – September 5, 2011

I successfully finished the 14 day detox!  Next is the kidney detox!

I have also reached #6 in my Hydrotherapy endeavor.

Have any of you ever had a colonic before???

It is quite an interesting experience.  But I would have to say this will add another chapter to the “Recipe for Illness” Series I have going on the blog!

The Hydrotherapist I have been working with is a wonderful woman.  She is truly a beam of light! :)  I am happy with the results I am feeling and experiencing.

What are the changes?

  1. Body odor has changed completely. Not that it was bad, just different.
  2. Fatigue prior to menstruation TOTALLY gone.
  3. Day1 or Day 2 Headache which usually comes with my menses – GONE!
  4. My skin is clearer and my hair is growing a bit faster.
  5. I am VERY aware of my chewing patterns.  Am I chewing enough, did I swallow that piece of food to fast, etc.
  6. My desire for foods has changed.   I had already dropped the sweets thing, but now I don’t want anything that would “plug” my system up.
  7. Although having a colonic once a week has effected my running a bit, I don’t think there is any need to worry.  Mostly my abdomen is sore the day after my appointment and I don’t run.
  8. I have been CLEANING around my house.  Feeling the need to get rid of clothes, clean my fridge out and various other cleaning endeavors. Basically just get rid of JUNK!
  9. Looking at everything I have in a new light.  A positive light!
  10. I feel more in control of my body than I did a few weeks ago!

I could go on, but I will stop there for now.  If you have any questions about colonics feel free to email me or comment on the post!

The thing about my body is this.  I am willing to do whatever natural work I need to do!  The Detox, the herbs, the baths, Hydro-Therapy, Eating the Correct foods for my body, etc.  So I will keep you updated on any news, discoveries and findings.

Thank you for reading!  I have missed you!

Hello Longevity Seekers!

How are you out there?!

It has been quite some time since we last spoke!

Things are progressing nicely and I am finding myself quite busy these days.  What about you?

I had mentioned a few bothersome aches and pains due to running, but thankfully I have been able to work through ALL of them! :)

Various yoga routines have been the most KEY point in running without an injury.  Many of the poses have really opened my mind and in turn my body.

Usually I begin with forward bends and move on to various hip opening poses.  Many of the “running preparatory” poses, or so I like to call them, help enormously while I am in the act of running.

Allowing the hips, glutes and hamstrings to be stretched throughout any given session is REALLY HELPFUL when I am doing a long run! Usually 6-7+ miles.  (Hopefully I will be able to add about a mile or two this week to the 7 mile mark!)

So I usually start with:

Forward Bend – Uttanasana – To wake up the hamstrings!  I usually hold this pose for 3 minutes. Inhale. move into…

Exhale…Upward Salute – Urdhva Hastasana – Usually to rejoice I am about to RUN!!! :) BIG Inhale…

Exhale… Standing Half Forward Bend – Ardha Uttanasana – This is usually added as a variation to the forward bend because it allows me to check on my taste tester and at times feel the stretch in my back !

I usually repeat this series 3 more times before I move onto the next sequence of poses.

I begin in Tadasana and place my arms to my side palms down toward the floor and step one foot to the right.  This way I am ready to practice the next pose.

Prasarita Padottanasana I – Wide Leg Forward Bend – This is usually a very intense stretch for the hamstrings, calves, inner part of the thigh, glutes and part of my lower back.  Since this is usually challenging the first time I practice this asana I usually touch the floor with my palms and hold the pose for about 2-3 minutes.  Once I am warmed up, I place my elbows on the ground and really intensify this stretch.  However, when practicing ALWAYS stay in the present tense and B.R.E.A.T.H.E!!! Just stay comfortable!

From this pose I usually angle one foot and move into Parsvottanasana – Intense Side Stretch Pose – which is REALLY helpful on the inner part of the thigh, glutes and lower back.  I hold this pose on each side.

Although I move into more poses I am wondering if you are bored right about now??? If you would like more poses comment below and I can do a special sequence post for before and after a run! :)

With the exception of this evening, I would like to run a few times in the a.m. this week. Let’s see if I can’t shake things up a bit.  I say this because I am not usually a morning person!  AT ALL! But, I digress.

I would like to run 25+ miles this week.  That is the goal.  I am confident I will be able to run a half marathon by the fall.  I find it takes me until about mile 4 to feel warmed up, which is great on longer runs and not to good while running 3 miles or less.  That isn’t to say I can’t run, just not as warmed up I suppose.  Maybe that is why I see people running prior to a race….hmmmm.

I did meet my goal to run on my birthday! :)  This birthday was truly a wonderful day! I ran a 5k next to the beach, enjoyed a great dinner with my taste tester and GREAT friend Ignacio!  He is studying at the University of Santa Barbara at the moment and coincidentally enough the college was just across the street from the Beach where the race was! :) Yeah!

We talked and hung out until it was time to drive back to the LA area.  I hope to do a few more Wednesday Evening races.

It appears that many of the races in June and on are DURING THE WEEK and THE WEEKEND! Yeah!  The summer seems to invite more activity around these parts!

Lots of Yoga, Lots of Meditation and LOTS OF LOVE ahead this next month and beyond.  I am currently looking for some really cool giveaways this year and am so thankful to my SUBSCRIBER out there! :)  (You know who you are beautiful! :)  Look for something in the mail for you…)

Vegan – Vegetarian – Raw Food…

Yoga…

Running…

Racing…

This is what defines the Veg888 Blog.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for reading this blog and opening your mind to a different PATH TO LIFE.

It is important to have your mind and energy channels open to change, love and light!  SMILE when possible, EAT HEALTHY as much as possible and seek knowledge DAILY…

Which brings me to a few interesting stories I have come across in the blogosphere/internet news travels…

1) Lululemon Athletica Inc. reached an all time HIGH yesterday in the financial world! Their stock ended the day at $72.85 per share!  What a business the Yoga world has become.  Although a high priced clothing store – their advertisement strategies and sponsorships will keep them going! I won’t sight any links specifically, but if you do a general NEWS SEARCH you will see what I am talking about.  (MANY MARKET ANALYSTS WERE WRONG ABOUT THE POTENTIAL GROWTH FROM OCTOBER TO THE CURRENT DAY!!!)  Is it safe to guess MANY OF THEM have never been to a Yoga class???

2) Vegetarian Times will be raising their RATE BASE twice in 2011.  It is currently at a 250,000 rate base.  It will jump to 275,000 rate base this month and be at 300,000 rate base by September 2011.  Why the change?  ”Brisk newsstand and subscription sales, says the publisher, triggered the increase..” They also said “ The publisher attributes a strong vegetarian market, with a growing awareness of the diet and lifestyle contributing to a 15 percent ad page increase over the last two years.” Do you order this magazine?  I think it is a positive step that society is opening their eyes to this wonderful way of life! What do you think?

3) According to the Washington Post a Vegan Diet is becoming more MAINSTREAM! Read that article HERE!  YEAH! :)

Don't represent VegParadise...Liked the Graphic! :)

4)HERE is a list of FILMS ABOUT THE “FOOD CHAIN” and why we should be more health conscious and turn to a Vegan Diet.  Personally I enjoy films about food and the wonderful results it can have on a sick/diseased body (RAW for 30 Days, Food Matters, SUPERCHARGE ME) but I felt you may find this list interesting.  I haven’t been able to get passed the first 15-20 minutes of “The Cove” or “Earthlings”, but that’s just me.  It hurts my heart.  What about you?  Have you seen these films?  What did you think?

5) Raw Food – On the Raw food news front – Matthew Kinney @ 105 Degrees Restaurant will be adding organic cooked foods to the restaurants menu.  Although they will continue to serve RAW food, the necessary addition of COOKED FOOD does not surprise me. Let’s just hope that DOES NOT INCLUDE MEAT!  - In other news – HERE is an article regarding the treatment of IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) with RAW ORGANIC FRUITS & VEGETABLES!

6) HERE is an article about fuel and recovery with Natural food.  Although not an article on running, it is an article to take note of regarding various insights on nutrition + sport = great time, experience and healing for the body!

And in the Veg888 Kitchen…

The buckwheat had begun to sprout! :)  Rejuvelac here I come – AGAIN! :) YES!!! I must admit that I can feel a difference without my beloved REJUVELAC!!!

Thanks for reading!

CONGRATULATIONS SEAN

FOR WINNING THE

VEG888 SPROUT KIT!!!

I have been meditating about life and all of it’s angles.  Sprouts growing in my kitchen, little birds learning to fly in my backyard, the life of the veggies I eat during a RAW meal, ETC.

Sprouts Update#1 – 050410

I soaked sunflower, radish, and peas for 8+ hours.  Did their first rinse at about 10 am.  Tonight I will rinse them.  I am excited to see what they have done, if anything…

The Quinoa was a really fast sprout!  From what I read so is the Radish Sprout.  It is a blend of Daikon and China Rose from Sprout People.  Since I would like to sprout the sunflower seed for it’s greens, I have 10+ days to go.  I will definitly need to begin a rotation of growing the sprouts and various types.

I will update with pix tomorrow!!!

Live Soups and Live sprouts with Live crackers sounds delicious!!! Especially since the heat has begun to rise here in Los Angeles.  Seems like the perfect time to make some FIREWATER!!!  (Stay tuned…)

I thought this was a great story to read before meditation.  I hope you all take the time to Meditate or Recharge or Pray or just be still and alone for at least 10 minutes during the day.  Inhale and Exhale. Rethink, Reorganize what is going on throughout your day.  Just take the time to really be grounded in your spirit and in your life.  It can only help us and those around us! :)

Once upon a time, before the sea existed, there was nobody living here, except Shiva and Shakti. Shakti is the most beautiful of all goddesses, and Shiva is her husband and lover. They love each other so much that even a short moment of separation is terrible for them. They are like wetness that is never separate from water, sweetness that is never separate from sugar, and warmth that is never separate from sunlight.

Once, Shiva went away to Mt. Kailash, to live as a hermit for awhile, and Shakti was not allowed to go with him. She stayed alone, below in the mountains, and felt very sad. Her longing for Shiva was so strong that she didn’t know what to do with herself. Everything around her seemed to be boring and purposeless, and she felt very restless. Shakti is inseparable from Siva – just as heat from fire, light from the sun, night from the sky, or a reflection from the mirror.

So, Shakti went around to all the Gods to ask for advice, but they couldn’t help her. When she was most desperate, she even went to Yama (the God of death); but he refused to see her, as she was not on his list of expected visitors.

Finally, she went to Indra (God of rain) and told him about her difficulties. He listened, and then said: You will meet Shiva again. In the meantime, you must practice Sadhana; this will serve two purposes. First, it will help you to progress spiritually, and will decrease the time you have to live without Shiva. You will also feel a certain inner contact with him, as he is practicing Sadhana, also. Secondly, your restlessness will disappear. The practice is to meditate on Om, the beginning-less sound. This practice will take you very far on the spiritual path. Just sit down for meditation, close your eyes, and repeat Om loudly, every time you exhale.

So, when the evening came, Shakti sat down in Padmasana and started repeating Om loudly. She found so much peace in this simple practice that it was impossible for her to stop. She sat in deep meditation for days, months, and years. Very heavy rains poured down on Shakti, but her meditation was so deep that she didn’t notice it at all. In a short time, the ground around her was covered with water. Soon, the water level had reached her waist. It rained and rained, and still Shakti didn’t notice anything. Finally, her whole body was covered with water, but her meditation was unbroken. She was still repeating, Om, Om, Om…

This is the sound of the sea, even today. At the bottom of the ocean, Shakti is still sitting deep in meditation, repeating her mantra. Every time she breathes in, the waves go back; every time she breathes out, they come forward again. So Om, the mystical eternal sound we hear in the ocean, is the voice of God. And so the ocean will go on roaring Om, Om, Om… until Shiva and Shakti are united again. And the sea is the best storyteller in the world. Just listen. You can learn everything from it, for everything is the sound of Om. This is the word which is powerful in silence.

See you tomorrow!  I will post the next Raffle Giveaway tomorrow as well!!!

Life is a sprial of good and bad all wrapped into one.  I wonder if there are those that have a spun stick of sugar type of life.  Like a big fat pink or blue cotton candy.  Sooo sweet they just are in bliss.

I am quite aware that there are those that aren’t so lucky all of the time.  Where it often seems as though they always have to fight bad energy.  Bad energy, good energy.  Both are REAL!  POSITIVE vs. NEGATIVE.  Again we come back to the duality in life.  And although we may not be able to change what we want all at the same time physically in whatever time frame we have given ourselves  – the point is you know what you want.  More than likely you even know how to get it.  Whatever it is.  The trick is not giving up.  Don’t ever give up a goal you are striving for.  Don’t ever stop trying to be a better person, lover, friend, parent, etc.  That’s what this is about.  Getting better in life like a fine wine.  It takes lots of pressure for precious stones to exist down in the depths of the earth.  Why would a goal be any different.  The same energy will be needed to ultimatley complete the task at hand! :)

YOGA

MATSYASANA or Fish Pose.

According to a traditional text, Matsyasana is considered as the destroyer of all diseases.

• Blood circulation is increased as your cervical, thoracic, and lumber regions are stretched. Your back muscles are also strengthened. It is beneficial to those suffering from cervical spondylosis, neck pain, and stiffness.

• The Asana does wonders for your respiratory system; when you assume this position, your chest is stretched open and your bronchial tubes are widened to promote easier breathing. In time, your rib cage will expand, and this will also encourage you to breathe more deeply. It is good for asthma and bronchitis.

• The name of the posture derives from the fact that – if you adopt the position in water, you will float quite easily.

• This is helpful for swimmers who can then hold their breath under water for longer periods.

• Pressure on the neck also works on the thyroid gland and the parathyroid gland (which regulates the level of calcium in the body). Metabolism balances and immune system is boosted.

• Most of abdominal and stomach problems are also corrected as your intestines and abdominal muscles are stretched and toned. It is good in constipation and for bleeding piles.

• The pressure on your neck stimulates the energy centre that regulates the voice – thus improving voice quality.

• It tones the nervous system, the pelvic organs, and the nerves connected with sexual functions. It also helps prevent and remove disorders of the reproductive system. *

Contraindications and Cautions

  • High or low blood pressure
  • Migraine
  • Insomnia
  • Serious lower-back or neck injury

RAWkin pose huh?  It will take a series of asanas before your body is warm enough to practice this pose.  It is feels sooo good.  My Yoga teacher always says “We are as young as our spine!”

This asana streches the spine and helps to get rid of the curve in your spine that eventually occurs with age.  It is also a great pose to improve posture.  Posture is sooo important.  It can help you look taller, thinner and confident.  All qualities that are postive!  Posture is something I am always having to work on! :(

RAW FOOD

This week has been pretty drab as far as culinary creations.  However here is a plate I made the other day…

It was slices of eggplant that had been marinated in Apple Cider Vinegar, Noma Shoyu, and Olive Oil.  Between each slice there was a layer of  Mushrooms and Raw Marinara Sauce with fresh oregano.  It was alright.  Not my best.

It is easy to get down on ourselves for not always eating 100% raw or feeling bad because we have a craving.  None of it is bad.  When we are tired or stressed out it is easy to reach for those things we know best.  Bad food with empty calories.  Sound familiar?  Everyone goes thru this I think.  Just do what is right for you.  You certainly don’t want to feel as though it is a chore to eat.  Keep within the scopes of general vegan/vegetarian health and you are still a soaring star from the rest who choose to indulge in other non-healthy foods.  Life is a neverending proposition.  We are always evolving into something new.  We just have to remember the movement needs to be positive for both our spirit and our mind!

And now a Recipe….

Last night I made Collard Green Wraps for the first time.  Actually the first time RAW.  There is a posting I have where I stuffed collards with  mushrooms and served them over some quinoa.  You can see that here.

I began with a quick home stylie Tabouli…

RAW SIMPLE TABOULI

1 Cucumber, peeled and cubed

8 Cherry Tomatoes

2 tablespoons Mint

1 cup Flat leaf parsley, chopped

3 tablespoons Raw Sesame Seeds.

Juice from 1/2 a lemon

Splash of Bragg

Splash of sesame oil

Preparation: Place all ingredients into a bowl and toss.  Allow to marinate for 15 – 20 minutes.

I then stuffed the collard leaves with sunflower seed hummus, tabouli and an avocado!

Use two Collard Green leaves per wrap.

The Sunflower Seed Hummus you can see here.

SUNFLOWER SEED HUMMUS

2 cups Raw Sunflower Seeds, soaked overnight

1/4 cup Raw Tahini

3 cloves garlic

Juice of 1 lemon

Preparation: With the “S” blade attachment put the Sunflower Seeds into the Food Processor and add all other ingredients.  Process.  Season to Taste. (You can add water to make it smoother or keep it as is.)

Here it is…

This was an enjoyable wrap and very filling.  In the future I think I will add carrots and other veggies and more raw falafel!  Maybe even a nice veggie and nut pate!

More to come folks!  You still have 6 days to enter the RAFFLE!!!

Live in Love and Light!

Namaste!

YOGASANA FOR THE INTESTINES

In order to keep the digestive system healthy, we must have strong intestines. There are many exercises for the intestines in the form of Surynamaskara (Sun Salutation), Halasana (Plow Pose), Paschimottansana (Seated Forward Fold), Shaahankasana (Child Pose), and Yogamudra .

Among all these – Yogamudra is very helpful in regularizing digestion and problems of the gastrointestinal system.

Sit on a mat, on an even surface, in any comfortable Asana. It can be Padmasana (Lotus Pose), Vajrasana (Thunderbolt or Zen Pose), or Sukhasana (Easy Pose). If possible, sit in Padmasana (lotus posture). For Padmasana, bring your right leg over the left thigh, then left leg over the right thigh, sit straight, bring your hands behind the back, hold your left wrist with your right hand, make a fist, and put your thumb inside the fist.

Inhale and stretch the spine. Gently breathe out, and bend forward, till the forehead touches the ground. Keep the eyes closed. Hold the breath outside. It is called, Bahyakumbhaka. Practicing Yogamudra, with Bahyakumbhaka (Pranayama Technique), increases digestion capacity because the blood circulation decreases in the legs, and it is available in the intestine. The blood circulation also increases towards the heart and the brain. There is stretching of the back muscles and massage to the intestine.

If you can’t hold the breath, do normal breathing. Do it for about 20 seconds in the beginning, and increase the time gradually to about five to fifteen minutes, without any fear. For coming up, inhale and slowly lift your head from the ground. It can be done when the stomach is empty or four hours after taking the food. Persons of all ages can practice Yogamudra fearlessly.

BENEFITS

The upper energy of the navel, and the lower energy of the navel, come together in the posture, and then helps in better digestion – it increases flexibility of the knee, hip, and ankle joints – relaxes the neck, back, and arms. Regular practice of Yogamudra gives relief from constipation. indigestion, gas formation, chronic colitis, leucorrhoea, knee joint pain, low backache, and burning sensation in the eyes, which arises from the problem of chronic constipation.

I have found this practice to really help lately.  I am totally concerned about my intestine and stomach remaining healthy.  I am attempting to do what I can to make sure my body runs efficiently.  I don’t like any of that bloated feelings I used to get from cooked food.  Muchless sugar and other bad habits.  No doubt at some point I will taste something that won’t be 100% raw or I will happen to want to share a meal with my NON_RAW family, but I am leaving it up to the universe to decide those factors.

Thank you for reading this posting.  More food on the way.  I have taken a break from preparation and have been relying on salads and smoothies that are simple and not very unique.  I have also been jamming on my oranges, grapefruits and avocados the universe has bestowed upon me by people in the neighborhood.  :) Love it!

VARIATION

Here is Yoga Mudra in Vajrasana (Zen/Thunderbolt) instead of Padmasana.

Namaste!

When you enjoy each second of your existence, you have achieved the state of self-realization.

This morning I woke up quite rested.  It had been some time since I was able to really acheive a restful sleep.  This is due to the die off of the parasites. Ick!

I wanted to take a moment to talk to you about something.  It is called Sankalpa.

This powerful sanskirt word means resolve.

“The purpose of Sankalpa: Influence and Transform the whole life pattern, not only the body, but also the mind, the emotions, and the spiritual forces. These forces are normally dissipated by inner conflicts, or confusion, or by various external demands and responsibilities of life. Sankalpa is a tool to focus the energy, the Prana – the life force, so that it becomes like a laser beam.” Dr. Rita Khanna

This was a really powerful hit to my ego recently.  If you think about it, that is what is keeping us from all kinds of things in life.  Whatever struggles we go through in life.  The ego is our biggest barrier.  We decide to make the decision rather than listen to what our inner self tell us. We think we want something because it feels good or tastes good or looks good.  But is it?

I encourage you to find a quiet space and close your eyes.  Focus on your heartbeat and your breathe.  Begin to visualize what you are struggling with and what changes you would like to make.  Be still and know you are loved and you are beautiful. Decide what it is you are willing to do to meet your goal.

For me?  My goal is wellness.  To feed my body live food.  This began as a Raw for 30 days mission.  For all I know I will be Raw from this point forward.  I am learning and I am loving.  Thank you for reading this blog.

Today’s Smoothie was adapted from Gone Raw a wonderful resource that I found!

1/2 cup fresh cranberries

A few Almonds

Handful of Hemp Seed

SALSA

1 Jalepeno Pepper

2 Tomatoes

1/2 of a brown onion

2 cloves garlic

2 handfuls of Cilantro/Fresh Coriander

9 Sun Salutations!

12 postures each set!

108 Asanas!

This morning I did my own yoga mala to begin this cleanse in a spiritual and fundamentally healing way!  The heat this series of poses brings to the body is amazing.  It had been a few days since I had practiced, but I must say it left me quite positive!  I have had a smile on my face since! ;)

Smoothies made with fresh fruit and greens will be a prevalent part of my routine throughout the day.  I have one other person partaking in the cleanse.  I couldn’t get anyone else to do the cleanse since New Year’s Eve is just around the corner.  All the partying you know!

Note:

These are the recipes I will begin the cleanse with.  I will also be making my own capsules of Wormwood and Clove.  Each set of pills will be made in 3 – 5 day intervals.  I will also make a list of “ailments” as well as a diary of what I feel from beginning to end.

Meditation & Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive!

There is no cost, just a lot of reward.

May today be all you need it to be.

May the peace of the Beloved and the freshness of Spirituality rest in your thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight, and conquer all your fears.

May the Beloved manifest himself today in ways you have never experienced.

May your joys be fulfilled, your dreams be closer, and your prayers be answered.

I hope faith enters a new height for you;

I hope your territory is enlarged.

I send you peace, healing, health, happiness, prosperity, joy,

True and Undying love for The Beloved.

In meditation this morning I felt the need to send love and wondorous wishes to those that read my blog and to those who need it.  The Beloved works in the most mysterious ways at times.

Namaste!

Along with love and spirituality, I also wanted to share some yoga poses to keep the body strong, the immune system stimulated and overall care for your body (temple)!

Immune System-a diffuse, complex network of interacting cells, cell products, and cell-forming tissues that protects the body from pathogens and other foreign substances, destroys infected and malignant cells, and removes cellular debris: the system includes the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes and lymph tissue, stem cells, white blood cells, antibodies, and lymphokines.

Chest opening upper back bends will activate the primary organ of the immune system, the thymus gland, located in the center of the chest. The most beneficial postures are

Cobra (Bhujangasana), Pigeon (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana), Fish (Matsyasana),Boat (Navasana, Bow (Dhanurasana, Bridge (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)

Since the thymus gland is located at the fourth chakra center, chanting “yum,” this chakra’s bija mantra, while performing these poses can further activate the thymus gland !

Inversions increase the passive circulation of the lymphatic system, which is responsible for the production and circulation of the immune cells to defend the body from the viruses and bacteria.

lymphatic system-the system by which lymph is returned from the cells to the blood and by which white blood cells are produced in response to inflammation or presence of antigens; in mammals, the system includes the lymph glands, vessels and sinuses through which lymph is carried, and lymphoid tissues, as bone marrow and the thymus.

Inversions such as:

Shoulderstand (Salamba Sarvangasana), Headstand (Salamba Sirasana), Plow (Helasana), Legs up the wall pose (Viparita Karani)

All poses will all help improve the flow of lymph and immune cells through the body.

Twists and hip openers activate secondary organs of the immune system: the spleen and the lymph nodes in groin and armpits. These organs are the production sites for the immune cells, so using yoga poses to target these organs during a cold or flu would be especially beneficial.

Use twists:

seated twist (Marichyasana III) & prayer twist (Parsvokonasana)

Hip openers:

bound angle (baddha konasana) & pigeon (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana) to activate these organs to keep them healthy and strong.

Lion pose is a specific yoga posture that activates the immune glands of the tonsils and the lymph nodes in the neck. Performing lion pose at the very beginning of a sore throat can dramatically stop and prevent the sore throat from progressing.

Another specific yogic technique that helps prevent and cure colds, especially sinus related infections, is Jala Neti (nasal irrigation). Jala Neti is the use of a Neti pot to pour water through the nasal passages, flushing out the bacteria or germs that can cause infection.  I generally place a drop of essential oil in the wash.  Lavendar is usually my favorite.  It is earths natural antiseptic!

Have a Safe and Happy Holiday!
